Huawei, which followed Samsung’s suit, and announced its Mate X foldable phone a few days later, too is awaiting the launch.- Yet, that hasn’t deterred almost everyone in the smartphone market to jump on the foldable phone bandwagon.
- And now if a new report is to be believed then we can expect as many as 19 new foldable phones to be launched in 2020.
- As per a report by ETNews, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola, LG, TCL all are expected to have a foldable phone in the market by next year.
- One of the key reason behind the foldable phone mania has been then less than expected sales of iPhones in 2019.
- Simply put, it’s the classic case of supply outweighing the demand.
- There are far too many OLED display panels available in the market because the iPhone didn’t do well as expected.
- The report quotes an analysis done by DSCC which reveals that the supply of flexible OLED displays was 47% more than the demand in 2018 and this year it
- “Oversupply aggravated as orders for flexible OLEDs on Apple's iPhones plummeted,” states the report.
- The oversupply has led to smartphone makers ‘experiment’ with different sorts of displays, including foldable ones which are set to dominate the landscape next year.
- “The industry expects about 19 foldable smartphones to emerge by 2020.
- Samung Electrnics, Huawei, Xiaoi, Opp, Vvo, Lenvo, Loyol, Gogle and TCL are known to deveop folable phones,” notes the reort.
- Ironially, it’s Apple only that hasn’t said a peep about a foldble iPhone or any other Aple devce.
- There have been rumours about a foldable iPad coming before the foldable iPhone but that still remains a very sketchy rumour.
